The Future in Our Minds – FIOM Rwanda – is a non-profit making non-governmental organisation based in Kigali. FIOM has been working with vulnerable communities in the Eastern Province of Rwanda since 1998, previously under the name Ejo Nzamera Nte. FIOM is recognised by the Ministry of Justice as a local NGO in Rwanda.

A delegation of the Swiss Development Cooperation visited Abanyamurava beekeeping cooperative

On Wednesday June 20th, 2018, a delegation composed of members of the Swiss Development Cooperation, Ikiraro Program and FIOM Rwanda visited Abanyamurava beekeeping cooperative located in Kanyonza District, MuramaSector, Muko Cell. The Cooperative is supported by the Pro-Bee Project, implemented by FIOM Rwanda with the financial support of Ikiraro Program. The Swiss Development Cooperation is one of the funding donors to Ikiraro program. Abanyamurava beekeeping cooperative is one of the 6 cooperatives supported by the Pro-Bee project.

Raised awareness of HIV/AIDS

  • 50 community health workers were trained to conduct door to door campaign strategy for HIV prevention and 10,500 households were reached by this campaign in Nyagatare District;
  • Built the capacities of the vulnerable people:

  • 261 people from 45 cooperatives were trained on cooperative management and income generating activities in Nyagatare District;
  • 65 people from 3 carpentry cooperatives were trained on technical skills in Gatsibo District;
  • 135 people from 8 beekeeping and 6 vocational cooperatives were trained on financial skills and entrepreneurship in Gatsibo and Kayonza district;
  • 490 people from 44 cooperatives (6vocational, 11beekeeping, 15maize, 8handcraft, 2tomato and 2pineapple cooperatives) were trained on principle of cooperative management and legal parameters in Gatsibo, Kayonza, Ngoma and Kirehe districts;
  • 150 people from 15 maize cooperatives were trained on techniques of maize production and processing in Ngoma and Kayonza districts
  • 60 people from 2 tomato cooperatives and other 60 people from 2 pineapple cooperatives were trained respectively on techniques of tomato and pineapple production and processing in Kirehe district;
  • 30 people from 3 beekeeping cooperatives were trained on techniques of honey production and other beekeeping products in Kayonza district;
  • 200 people from 20 associations and 10 cooperatives were trained on production, use and importance of solar oven in Ngoma and Kirehe district;
  • Provided support to the vulnerable people:

  • 900 people organized into 45 cooperatives were supported through income generating activities (support of 44cows, 180pigs, 100behives and 860 goats) in Nyagatare District.
  • 8 beekeeping cooperatives received equipment and materials while 4 of them received 200 modern beehives and their accessories in Kayonza district;
  • 3 Carpentry cooperatives received carpentry toolkits in Gatsibo district;
  • 15 maize cooperatives are beneficiaries of 3 maize processing units (2 units in Ngoma district & 1 unit in Kayonza district);
  • 2 pineapple cooperatives and 2 tomato cooperatives benefits respectively 1 pineapple and 1 tomato processing units in Kirehe district; 1 Center of solar oven production was established in Ngoma district and 169 solar cookers produced;
  • Environmental protection.

  • Promoting and popularising the use of environmentally friendly solar ovens.
