Program for Responsive Beekeeping Value Chain in Eastern Zone of Rwanda

Funded by Palladium International Ltd via Rwanda multi‐donor civil society Program “Ikiraro cy’Iterambere”; FIOM Rwanda is currently working with 16 beekeeping cooperatives in Kayonza, Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts in the Eastern Province of Rwanda.

Supporting communities to fight against HIV/AIDS

Working with The Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, FIOM Rwanda is carrying out activities in the district of Nygatare, (eastern Province of Rwanda), which equip communities with the knowledge to fight the spread of HIV/AIDs and also give those affected by the disease the skills and tools they need to increase their income generating ability.

Promoting the use of environmentally friendly solar cookers

With the help of the GEF Small Grants Programme, part of the Global Environment Facility and UN Development programme, FIOM Rwanda is working to popularise the use of solar ovens in the Ngoma and Kirehe districts of eastern Rwanda.

Improving youth employment prospects

Together with Plan Rwanda, FIOM Rwanda is helping vulnerable people, including children and young people, to learn the skills they need to find work. This work includes supporting young people to gain professional qualifications and jobs in trades such as carpentry, tailoring and construction. Many of these young people are orphans or have taken responsibility for their household at a very young age.

Promoting good governance

Rwanda, with the support of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, is helping communities to take a more active role in local governance. This work supports local people to participate in local planning processes and to offer their thoughts on the delivery of services and projects that will affect them and their families.

Empowering women through cooperative development

Partnering with NEPAD‐SPANISH FUND to empower women through cooperative development, FIOM Rwanda is carrying out activities in th e district of Kayonza, Ngoma and Kirehe (Eastern Province of Rwanda), which enable cooperatives of rural women comply with government legal parameters and equip them with key analysis tools, improve their social‐economic status and develop the capacities of local authorities.
