Beekeeping in Rwanda has been practiced for many years through successive generations and along inherited patterns. A simple practice that requires little investment, beekeeping has the potential to supplement household incomes. Beekeepers appreciate FIOM Rwanda support to attend the National Agriculture Show 2018

The 13thNational Agriculture Show ended on Wednesday July 3rd2018 at Mulindi show ground. Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the show brought together over 150 participants. With the support of FIOM Rwanda, beekeeping cooperatives from the Eastern Province attended the exhibition. Reflecting back on how successful their participation was, they thank FIOM Rwanda and Ikiraro Program for supporting them to attend.

FIOM Rwanda joins Agri-show 2018 opens at Mulindi grounds

FIOM Rwanda joined other agriculture sector partners for the 13th National Agriculture Show for the year 2018 which opened at Mulindi on June 26th, 2018. This year’s National Agriculture Show is focusing on various technologies as part of efforts to popularize mechanisms to fight effects of climate change among farmers. The 13th Kigali National Agriculture show 2018 runs from June 26 to July 28, 2018, at Mulindi Agri-show ground in Gasabo District, Kigali. In her opening remarks, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Geraldine Mukeshimana, indicated that the event will help link people who have the technologies and farmers. Minister Mukeshimana stressed that said there is need for sufficient quality seeds, fertisers, water, and extension services to ensure productive farming.

A delegation of the Swiss Development Cooperation visited Abanyamurava beekeeping cooperative

On Wednesday June 20th, 2018, a delegation composed of members of the Swiss Development Cooperation, Ikiraro Program and FIOM Rwanda visited Abanyamurava beekeeping cooperative located in Kanyonza District, Murama Sector, Muko Cell. The Cooperatives is supported by the Pro-Bee Project, implemented by FIOM Rwanda with the financial support of Ikiraro Program. The Swiss Development Cooperation is one of the funding donors to Ikiraro program. Abanyamurava beekeeping cooperative is one of the 6 cooperatives supported by the project in Kayonza District

FIOM Rwanda joined beekeeping cooperatives in open days held in Nyagatare and Kayonza district.

Fiom Rwanda joined beekeeping cooperatives it supports to attend the open days held from May 23rd to 25th, 2018 in both Nyagatare and Kayonza districts of Eastern province. In Nyagatare District, FIOM Rwanda was represented by the respective field officers in charge of the Pro-Bee project (Program for Responsive Beekeeping in the Eastern Province) which supports beekeeping cooperatives to increase beekeeping value chain productivity through increase honey production and enhanced collaboration of the value chain actors. A number of cooperatives supported by the project, including KOTEKA and TWITEZIMBERE INDATWA beekeeping cooperatives attended the event where nearly 48 different organizations from different background had gathered.
